Once you find the perfect contractor and schedule your home siding installation, it’s time to prepare your property for the project. A few simple steps will go a long way to help your contractor work efficiently while protecting your property. Follow the guide below for a smooth installation process.

Home Siding Installation Prep Checklist

1. Move Portable Items

A clear space will help your contractors get their tools and materials in with ease while ensuring your belongings are not accidentally damaged. Tuck away all portable lawn furniture, barbecues, potted plants, and other portable items.

2. Remove Interior Hangings

sidingAll that pounding from hammering in the siding material will cause vibrations through the home. Take down anything hanging on the walls, as these items could fall down during the installation process. This includes shelving, wall art, mirrors and more. If you have fragile items on bookshelves that are against the wall, either pull the bookshelves away from the wall or take down the fragile items.

3. Trim Trees

Overhanging branches can get in the way as well. Trim all trees back at least six feet away from your home. This gives the remodeling team the space they need to install higher siding without your trees becoming a problem.

4. Cut Off Exterior Power

Because the contractors will be working all around your home’s exterior, it’s best not to let power run through the electrical lines outside your home. Shut off the power supply to the exterior lights; this will keep everyone safe throughout the project. If these professionals need additional lighting, they’ll bring it themselves.

5. Clear the Driveway

Contractors have a lot of tools and materials to haul in, so it’s best if they can park as close to your home as possible. Clear your driveway or another nearby parking area so they can unload everything easily. The time they save in loading and unloading will keep your project on schedule.
