With summer right around the corner, now’s the time to start preparing your RV for the open road. After taking it out of storage, there are several steps to ensure the vehicle is ready for all your summer adventures. If you’re not sure where to start, this handy guide should help.

How to Get Your RV Ready for Summer

1. Inspect the Tires

Check the tire treads to confirm they have another season in them. If they don’t, replace them before mapping out your first trip. Even if your tires look ready for the year, check their pressure and tighten every lug nut.

2. Flush the Plumbing

If you used antifreeze to keep the pipes, pump, and water tank from freezing over the winter, you’ll have to flush the entire system with fresh water. This will prevent your family from ingesting RV antifreeze while on the road.

3. Check All Gas Appliances

storageIf you store your RV for an extended period of time, air bubbles can get stuck in the gas line. To ensure all the appliances are still functioning as they should, test them before leaving. For example, turn on the propane tank and light the burners for a few minutes to confirm they're in good working order. Be sure to check the fridge, furnace, and water heater, too.

4. Replace the Batteries

All the batteries you removed prior to putting the vehicle into storage for the winter will need to be replaced. If you’re simply reinserting the old batteries rather than installing new ones, keep in mind that they will have lost some of their power while in storage. Make sure to charge them fully before using them.
