Feed your Bones

All about nutrition and improving bone strength

Olivia Holler

Our bones are constantly changing, and to build strong healthy bones when you are young and old you have to: Feed your Bones. What you feed into your body greatly impacts how YOU feel, function, move  and what kind of life you are living.

Changing or improving your diet can improve not only how you feel but your bone strength as well.

A year ago, I was completely underweight and looked very sickly because I was not eating enough and not enough of the right things.I was extremely exhausted every day and could not function during some school days. I went to a nutrition and I got a “diet” of dairy, wheat and a bunch of other things to beef me up. And it worked. I am now a year, not underweight and feeling so much more energized.

I am that a diet can work and it does, if you are consistent. Having proper nutrition is SO important for your body and how you function during the day. There are many good and bad foods to feed into your body, you just have to know the right ones to intake. Nutrients play a role in bone strength and health. Calcium, vitamin D and magnesium are the key bone health nutrients. Many foods contain substances like phytates and oxalates that bind up minerals and prevent us from extracting them .

Foods like spinach (which contain calcium) are not necessarily good sources of calcium, because the oxalate prevents us from absorbing and using that calcium.

Protein in small amounts during the day stimulate muscle growth and repair. Eliminate soda, coffee, sweetened tea, energy drinks and drink water as in alternative, eat more fruit and vegetables.

The little changes that you make toward your body or health have the greatest impact. Healthy bones and body equals a healthier and happier life!
