Summer is undoubtedly the most popular season for weddings. Brides and grooms love to take advantage of the season’s warm temperatures, the opportunity to expand their wedding attire options, and the beautiful summer blossoms that will make the perfect bouquet. Despite its benefits, however, summer weddings are not simple to plan, so before you book a wedding venue, consider the helpful do’s and don’ts below.

Do:

Send save-the-dates in advance.

Most people take vacations during the summertime, so if you’re planning your nuptials around then, try to be considerate to your guests’ plans. Don’t wait too long to send your save-the-dates. Mail them out at least six months in advance of the wedding day. By giving everyone an early notice, both you and your guests can plan out summer events without hassle.

Provide heat relief.

Prevent your attendees from overheating by ensuring your outside wedding venue has areas set up to provide shade or air conditioning. Cold refreshments will also keep your guests cool and hydrated whether they’re under the sun or dancing the night away, so place chilled drinks around the venue for easy access.

Don’t:

Begin the ceremony during the hottest time of the day.

Too much sun exposure can make guests and the wedding party uncomfortable. Don’t hold the wedding ceremony during the hottest time of the day. Late afternoon is preferable. While you can still enjoy warm weather later in the day, the temperature will be considerably lower, and you will stay comfortable.

Leave the food out.

It’s no secret that leaving food out without proper refrigeration can cause it to spoil, especially if it's exposed to summer heat. As you’re planning the menu for the reception, ensure your selected caterer will safely transport all food items, especially if they are cooked off-site. You also want to confirm your wedding venue’s ability to properly refrigerate or warm perishable foods until it’s time to serve dinner. Unsafe food temperatures can make your guests sick.
