Your washer and dryer are important appliances in your home. You should be able to recognize when you need to change out these items, or you may be stuck going to the laundromat until you can secure suitable replacements.

How to Tell If It’s Time for a New Washer & Dryer

1. Strange Sounds

Loud noises, like banging or rattling, and excessive rocking indicate a balance issue within the dryer. The problem could stem from a worn roller, which supports the drum as it spins.

2. Excessive Leaking

appliancesA small puddle of water forming underneath your washer may not seem like a big deal. However, as connections and hoses begin giving out, you might find more water coming from the machine. Leaks are a pain to clean up, and they can cause water damage to the flooring under the appliance as well as the surrounding area.

3. Damp Clothes

The first place to check is the dryer vent when the appliance is running.  Stand outside of your home and take note of the airflow while drying clothes. A lack of air usually indicates a blockage in the vent or a problem with the lint trap.

4. Old Age

If your dryer is 10 years or older, it may have simply come to the end of its life span. While some washers and dryers can last as long as 13 years with the right maintenance, it’s best to err on the side of caution and get a replacement, especially if costly repairs keep building.
