There are many decisions to make to create the perfect wedding day. Yet, when your wedding day finally comes, you’ll discover just how quickly it will all unfold. One special way that newlyweds love to relive their big day all over again is to enjoy a slice of wedding cake together on their first anniversary. Discover how it’s done with the simple tips below.

5 Tips to Perfectly Freeze & Store Wedding Cake

1. Cool it for a Few Hours

Once you get your cake home, keep it in the refrigerator for a few hours. This will firm up the frosting and prepare it for freezing. Prior to your wedding, choose a designated person for saving the top wedding cake layer and taking it home if you don’t intend to go straight home on the wedding night.

2. Remove the Decorations

3. Wrap, Store, & Rewrap

Next, wrap the entire cake in plastic wrap. Avoid any air pockets by wrapping it tightly. Following that, cover the cake again with two layers of foil. Place it in an airtight container, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides. Label the container and place it in the freezer.

4. Add Baking Soda

Using baking soda in the freezer is a useful way to eliminate any odors from strong-smelling foods, such as garlic-heavy leftovers. This will prevent your cake from picking up any other tastes from your freezer. Simply place an opened box of baking soda inside the freezer and replace it every three months.

5. Thaw for 24 Hours

The day before your first anniversary, remove the cake and thaw it in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Allow it to sit out at room temperature for an hour. Then turn on your wedding video, have a toast, and enjoy!
