2. Safely Load the ATV

Even though you’re only driving a few feet, you should always wear the appropriate safety gear such as a helmet when loading your ATV onto the equipment trailer. Drive the ATV up and onto the trailer slowly with the four-wheel-drive engaged if possible. Once the ATV is on the equipment trailer, follow the 60/40 weight rule. 60% of the ATV’s weight should be positioned toward the front of the trailer (closest to your pickup or SUV).

3. Secure the ATV

Properly securing the ATV to the trailer is one of the most important aspects of towing the vehicle. Use straps rated at a minimum of 2,000 pounds complete with adjustable ratchets so the vehicle can be tightly held in place. When secured, the ATV should only move with the trailer itself, not slide or slip around.
