The retina lines the inside of the back of the eye and converts light into neural signals, so the brain can recognize what it’s seeing. If any part of the retina tears, thereby detaching it from the eye, it constitutes an emergency because it’s effectively cut off from the blood supply. If left untreated, blindness may eventually result. Visit an eye doctor right away if you experience any of the following symptoms.

3 Common Signs of Retina Detachment

1. Floaters

Floaters are tiny gray or black specks that appear to drift around in front of you. Although they can be attributed to something as simple as age, the sudden onset of floaters could be caused by a tear in the retina. If you start seeing floaters, make an appointment with your eye doctor immediately to rule out any serious conditions.

2. Blurred Vision

3. Poor Peripheral Vision

When the retina detaches from the eye, it is unable to function properly and ultimately inhibits peripheral vision. Because this is a fairly subtle symptom, it may not necessarily be apparent at first. If it’s accompanied by any other issues, though, it will quickly become noticeable, and it warrants a trip to the eye doctor.
