Contact lenses are a convenient, non-intrusive, and effective way to correct your vision. Taking good care of your lenses will ensure they are always comfortable, and will prevent problems such as eye infections or scratches. Follow the guide below for proper handling procedures.

How to Care for Your Contact Lenses

1. Wash Your Hands

Before you handle your contact lenses, wash your hands with mild soap and water. Even minuscule bacteria and dirt that the eye cannot see could contaminate your lenses and lead to eye infection or irritation. Dry your hands with a lint-free cloth, then put your contacts in.

2. Use Solution

Never put water or spit on your lenses to clean them, as this could spread tiny contaminants. Instead, use a specialized contact disinfecting solution. Change out your solution each time you use it, so you know it’s clean. Keep a spare case filled with solution with you at all times so you’re never left without a safe place to put your lenses.

3. Avoid Contact With Makeup & Hair Spray

Meye careakeup and hair spray will ruin the lenses if they come into contact with them. Apply hair spray before putting in your contacts. Put on your eye makeup after putting them in, and take them out before removing your makeup.

4. Avoid Water Contact

Water is harmful for your contacts and can cause an eye infection. Remove your lenses before doing anything that would get water in your eyes, such as swimming, showering, or using a hot tub.

5. Care for Your Case

Clean your contact lens case with a sterile lens solution between each use — never use tap water. Replace your case once every three months, or immediately if it gets damaged in any way.
