When you're in the middle of a kitchen remodeling project, you often don't have access to a kitchen for days or weeks at a time. One solution is to eat out until your home is back in order, but that can become costly. To help you get through the remodel without breaking the bank, below are some workarounds that will help you continue to eat at home.

Tips for Getting Through a Kitchen Remodeling Project

1. Utilize Small Appliances

The remodel may put your fridge, stove, and other major appliances out of commission. If that happens, plan your meals around smaller, portable appliances. For instance, store foods in an ice chest, heat water in an electric kettle, and cook foods in a microwave or toaster oven. A crockpot and an electric skillet will prove invaluable during this period as well.

2. Use the Outdoor Grill

kitchen remodelingMany grills include side burners to heat up sauces and soups. This is an ideal solution for food prep during your kitchen remodeling project. Even if your grill doesn’t have this feature — or if yours runs on charcoal instead of propane — you can simply layer a piece of aluminum foil over the grill screen to keep the bottom of your pot clean. It may take a bit longer to prepare a traditional kitchen meal on an outdoor grill, but it’s an ideal substitution for a conventional range.

3. Utilize Disposable Dishware

With a kitchen sink, you'll find washing dishes inconvenient and impractical. Thus, for the time being, start utilizing paper plates and disposable bowls and silverware. You can wipe off and reuse any items that aren't too messy and discard any that are. This will make cleanup easier and less stressful.
