As the weather gets warmer, your employees and patrons will open your sliding doors much more often to enjoy the charms of summer. While sliding doors offer pleasant views and are easy to use, these glass doors can also be targets for burglars. Use the following tips to protect your commercial property from this security soft spot.

3 Tips for Burglar-Proofing Your Sliding Doors

1. Attach It to the Alarm System

While many property owners incorporate their front and back doors into their alarm systems, they don’t always consider sliding glass doors, especially if they were installed after their security system was set up. By adding these doors to your security system, you’ll hear an alarm as soon as anyone attempts to break these doors or opens them after a certain hour.

2. Test & Upgrade the Locks

If you’re able to pry them open with a bit of extra force, they probably won’t be strong enough to keep out burglars. In this case, consider upgrading to a commercial lock that features double steel bolts, which drop into place to prevent the door from opening.

3. Protect the Glass

If an intruder can’t open the door with sheer force, they may resort to smashing the large glass pane. While this would require plenty of strength and a heavy, sharp object, you can make this even more difficult for anyone considering a break-in. You can have a shatterproof film applied directly to the glass pane without marring the view. If a burglar tries to break the glass with a weapon after the film is attached, the film will prevent the door from shattering.
