A quality refrigerator is key to food safety and keeping your customers healthy. Therefore, it’s essential to spot the signs of a faulty refrigerator. The following are some signals that your commercial refrigeration system needs to be repaired or replaced.

How to Tell If You Need a New Commercial Refrigerator

1. Frost Buildup

Most refrigerators have a built-in defrosting system, and you may notice frost or ice if it fails. Over time, frost will collect on the evaporator coils. This can cause the temperatures to fluctuate, leading to ice building up throughout the refrigerator. You may also see this buildup on the outside of the system, floor, ceiling, and walls.

2. Inconsistent Temperature

However, your fridge may start fluctuating in temperature when it declines. Food will spoil quicker, and your energy bills will spike. If you notice these issues, avoid selling any of the food in the refrigerator.

3. Hot Motor

Watch for the refrigerator being warm to the touch. Generally, the insulated coils in the back of the unit prevent you from feeling the temperature. But the coils could be failing if they overheat. When you notice this issue, call a commercial refrigeration technician for an inspection. They may recommend repairing the coils or replacing the entire refrigerator. To prevent this issue in the future, clean and dust the coils at least once a month.
