Getting children excited about numbers early on will help them immensely down the road. Imagination Childcare Academy, Inc. in Rochester, NY, is committed to helping each child learn through active involvement, and they’re dedicated to providing that is ripe for learning.

These childcare experts know that raising a child can be hectic, but they want to suggest some simple games you can play with your child at home to get him or her familiar with numbers:

  • Counting Games: Children, especially toddlers, love to pick things up and play with them. Why not turn this curiosity into a game? Have them count different colored blocks as they stack them, or put all the fruit in your fridge into different categories and then count the categories. It seems simple, but counting games can increase your child’s motor skill development.
  • Cooking Assistant: Next time you’re preparing the family meal, have your child help you. This is a great way to get them learning about different systems of measurement, and most of the time, they don’t even realize it. If your children are still too young to measure things on their own, help them, and then let them pour the ingredients into the pot or bowl.
  • Scavenger Hunts: This is a fun activity to do around the house. Send your child out into the yard to find four pinecones, or have them bring you a certain number of items of the same type, color, etc. If you organize the scavenger hunt correctly, your child won’t even know they’re studying numbers at all.
