Seasonal maintenance is key to ensuring the HVAC system remains functional. Otherwise, breakdowns may occur and leave your home to become unbearably hot. Here’s how you can preserve the condition of the system and prevent the need for emergency AC repair.

4 Seasonal HVAC Maintenance Tips

1. Swap Out The Filters

Dust, dirt, pollen, and other debris will accumulate along the surface of the AC filters. This can cause additional airborne particles to permeate your home and lower indoor air quality. Replace the filters at least once every three months to remove allergens. If you have pets, do this at least once a month.

2. Clean the Drain Hole

Clogged drain holes could cause condensation to develop within the air conditioner, creating the ideal environment for rust and mold. Cleaning it out regularly is the best way to avoid a need for AC repair. Look in the back of the unit and make sure that there are no visible obstructions, gently poking around with a paper clip to loosen buildup.

3. Clear Around The Condenser

A/C repairLeaves and other loose debris that gather around the condenser can gradually reduce air flow, impacting the unit’s efficiency. Rake everything up into a pile and bag it up for trash to give the condenser room to breathe. You may also want to trim back any nearby or overhanging branches.

4. Vacuum Out The Vents

Dust can collect inside ducts and vents as it passes through the system. If left for too long, a clog may develop that could disrupt operations and cause a need for immediate AC repair. Take off the vent covers and vacuum out the interior at the start of the season to address accumulation.
