When you're moving house, one of the trickiest projects is safely packing your china and glassware, which are prone to breaking during transport and need extra protection. To help your move go smoothly, below are some tips on how to pack these fragile items.

How to Pack China & Glassware

1. Get Strong Boxes

The first step is to choose moving boxes that won't collapse under the weight of any items stacked on top. For instance, a dish pack box is made of double-walled, corrugated cardboard to support a great deal of weight inside and out. These types of boxes are also ideal for other fragile items, including Christmas ornaments, knickknacks, and collectibles.

2. Use Plenty of Packing Materials

Moving in Pearl City, HIWhether you have newsprint, bubble wrap, or butcher paper, use a lot of it to cushion your china. Wad it up and place a layer of padding on the bottom of the carton. Then place another layer of packing materials between each layer of dishes. Finally, stuff extra padding along the sides to prevent shifting during transport. Top the box off with a layer of packaging materials to protect the contents’ top sides.

3. Wrap Items Separately

Wrap each item individually to prevent those on the same layer from cracking against each other. This includes wrapping composite items, like a sugar bowl and its lid, separately. For extra security, wrap packing materials around the stems of wine glasses and through the handles of teacups. Also, don't pack pots and pans in the same box as china and glassware. The heavier glass, ceramic, and metal of pots and pans may collide with and break the more delicate dishes.
