Summer provides plenty of opportunities to spend time outside. Regardless of whether you host pool parties or barbecues—or both—your landscaping puts up with a lot of wear and tear during the warmer months. If you’ve put a considerable amount of effort into your lawn and garden design, it’s only natural to want to preserve it. Fortunately, you can protect the landscaping by following a few simple tips all season long.

3 Landscaping Tips for Summer

1. Water in the Evenings

Water your lawn after the sun starts sinking so the water has a chance to penetrate the roots. Otherwise, it will evaporate in the heat. In general, grass needs about 1 inch of water per week to remain green and vibrant. Depending on the size and scope of your garden design, it may be necessary to install an irrigation system to meet this requirement.

2. Examine Trees & Bushes Periodically

Inspect the flora on your property for signs of damage or disease regularly. North Carolina can get fierce thundershowers with powerful winds, so examine each tree after every storm. If any limbs sustained damage, call an arborist. You should also call for help if you notice any hard growths, peeling bark, black shoots, brown leaves, or powdery mildew—all signs of disease that can spread throughout the property if left unchecked.

3. Mow the Grass With Purpose
