Few things ruin a summer day like a broken air conditioner. However, you don’t have to sweat it out before a professional arrives. If you’re getting hot and impatient while waiting for air conditioning repairs, follow these five steps to stay cool.

5 Steps to Take While Waiting for Air Conditioning Repairs

1. Shut Out the Sun

Creating shade is one of the best ways to naturally reduce the temperature at home. Shut all the blinds and draw the curtains closed to prevent sunlight from filtering in through the windows.

2. Try Cool Showers

air-conditioning-repairIf you’re going to be waiting a while for air conditioning repairs, consider taking a cool shower before bed to lower your body temperature. When you get out, lightly towel off and then take advantage of air drying to enjoy a prolonged evaporation process that will make you feel cooler longer.

3. Turn on a Dehumidifier

Air conditioning doesn’t just cool the air temperature – it also lowers the moisture levels in the air. When your system breaks down, you’ll likely experience an increase in humidity levels that can leave your family feeling hot and sticky. Turn on a portable dehumidifier to lower the moisture levels and make everyone more comfortable.

4. Break out the Fans

Circulating the air can promote evaporation of sweat. This process cools the skin by removing heat from the body. Hang out in areas of the home with ceiling fans to draw warm air upward, or bring portable fans with you as you go about your day until air conditioning repairs are made.

5. Don Cotton Clothing

Wet a cotton t-shirt and shorts before putting them on. The material will slowly dry off, encouraging your skin to cool down until the fabric is completely dry. If you’re still waiting and your clothing is already dry, you can start the process all over again.
