Schedule practice to keep them motivated.

Consistency is key when it comes to developing piano skills. One of the best ways to keep your child motivated is by scheduling a daily time for practice. If your child is a beginner, aim for at least 20 minutes a day.

Talk to the teacher.

Keep an open line of communication with your child’s piano teacher. They can answer any questions you might have, such as how long they should practice for and how often. They can also review the skills your child learned during their piano lessons so that you know what they should work on improving.

Forget to provide positive reinforcement.

Learning any new skill can be challenging at times, especially when your child is attempting to master a new piece of music. Don’t forget to praise your child. Even thanking them for bringing music into your home can go a long way when it comes to encouragement. 

Allow distractions in the room. 

If your television is set up in the same room as the piano, make sure it’s turned off so it won’t distract your child. Other electronic devices, such as cell phones and tablets, should also be kept out of reach until their practice is over.
