According to certain dog owners, the bigger the pup, the bigger the heart. Large-breed dogs are full of love and personality, making them wonderful companions, forever friends, and emotional support partners. Outside of normal pet demands and routine veterinarian visits, big dogs don't generally have any special care requirements. They do, however, offer a number of benefits to their owners.

Reasons to Own a Big Dog

1. They're Active

Larger dogs require more frequent exercise than smaller pups. Depending on the breed, age, and health of the dog, veterinarians recommend anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of daily exercise. This means you'll be getting more exercise, too, and that's almost always a positive thing.

veterinarianBig dogs don't tire easily, so be prepared to go on long walks or runs every day. Most large dogs greet the possibility of outdoor activity with great enthusiasm, so even on days when you might be feeling less than thrilled about the physical activity in store, your dog's excitement will be infectious.

2. They're Patient

Research suggests that larger dog breeds are more patient and intelligent. This can make them easier to train than smaller breeds. Their larger size also gives them a greater sense of authority and security than smaller dogs, so a bigger breed is more likely to be good-natured and easygoing when dealing with young children and other pets.

3. They're Social Magnets

Many big dogs are charmers, but just by virtue of their size alone, they often attract attention and draw others—human and canine alike—to them. You'll have the opportunity to meet all kinds of new people and expand your social circle. A big dog is always a great topic of conversation, and when others see how patient, smart, and well-cared-for your dog is, you'll be making new friends, too. And at the end of the day, you’ll have a big pile of cuddles to unwind with.
