Scuba diving is a fun water activity that gets people outdoors and exploring nature. However, to enjoy it fully and safely, participants need several pieces of scuba equipment. Here’s a list of what you should buy or rent before learning to dive.

A Guide to Scuba Equipment

1. Mask

It can be difficult to see underwater because our eyes are designed to work in air, not water. Diving masks are made with silicone skirts around their frames that create a suction-like effect. This prevents leaks from developing during the dive and allows you to see clearly.

2. Fins

3. Wetsuit

Water pulls heat from your body much faster than air, so a fully submerged diver will feel a lot chillier than standing in the water near the beach. Wearing a wetsuit will help you maintain the optimal body temperature. The thick, neoprene material naturally reduces the cold and keeps the skin warm even in deep waters.

4. Gloves

Many sharp growths exist underwater that can catch divers unaware and break the skin. Wearing scuba gloves will prevent exposure and protect your hands. Plus, the thick rubber exterior will act as an insulator and keep the skin from getting cold.
