For many kids, attending preschool is the first time they spend extended periods away from their parents. If your little one is about to start school, make sure they remain comfortable and safe while away from home. For a smooth transition, here are a few items to put in their backpack.

3 Items Your Child Will Need in Their Preschool Bag

1. Clothes & Underwear

From fruit juice to paint and dirt, your preschooler might get grime all over their school clothes while eating, participating in activities, or playing outside. Remember to pack an extra pair of pants, a T-shirt, and socks so that they don’t have to wear dirty or wet clothing all day. You should also include a fresh pair of underwear in case they have an accident. To prevent your youngster’s belongings from getting lost, write their name on all the clothing tags, including what they wear to school.

2. Sunscreen & Medications

preschoolAt preschool, kids will likely spend some time playing outside. Pack sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher so that they’re protected from harmful UV rays. You should also include any medications they might need during the day and write detailed, step-by-step instructions for the teacher or school nurse on how they should be administered.

3. Blanket

Young kids need plenty of rest throughout the day, and your child might be expected to lay down during nap time. It’ll be easier to sleep if they’re comfortable, so pack one of their blankets from home. Put a small piece of masking tape along one of the seams and write your child’s name on the tape to make sure it isn’t misplaced. Give your child a sense of familiarity and security by including a stuffed toy from their bedroom to hold as they drift off to sleep.
