Now that spring is here, it's time to pull your lawn equipment out of storage and get to work. After disuse over the winter, you may find you need lawn mower repair or even a new machine. Below are some signs your current mower isn’t making the cut.

Indications You Need Lawn Mower Repair or Replacement

1. It Leaves Grass Long or Ragged

When you try to cut the lawn with a dull blade, your mower may sweep the grass aside instead of chopping off the tops of the plants. When this happens, you'll notice little height difference in the grass after you make a pass. Worse, the cutting blade may hack off the tops of the grass blades instead of cutting them cleanly. This will leave your lawn looking ragged and untidy and may result in dead spots. Sharpening the blade should speed up the job and keep your lawn looking well-groomed.

2. Mobility Needs Have Changedlawn mower repair

If the push mower is becoming too much of a chore to use and maintain as you age, you may be inclined to let the lawn go or spend extra money hiring a neighbor to cut the grass. If you are no longer able to mow your lawn — or if your new property is considerably larger than your old yard — switch to a riding mower. This lets you stay in control, makes the job much easier, and helps you get it done faster.

3. Mower Won't Start

When the mower refuses to start or turns over with extreme difficulty, you could have a clogged air filter or loose or dirty spark plugs. For ignition, the engine needs plenty of airflow and a healthy spark. If either of these is unavailable, it won't run. Clean or replace the filter and tighten and scrub the plugs. If this doesn't help, bring your machine to a professional shop for lawn mower repair.
