For Jet Ski® owners, the start of the summer promises many enjoyable weekends on the water with their favorite watercraft. Yet, if you’ve had your Jet Ski in storage for a few months, there are a few key steps to take before it’s ready to use. Follow the simple steps below to get the machine ready to ride the waves this season.

5 Ways to Get a Jet Ski Ready to Launch

1. Remove It From Storage in Advance

If you keep your Jet Ski in storage, plan a date when you can pick it up and perform all of the tasks needed to get it water-ready. You may be able to complete the rest of this list at home or the marina. If possible, plan your prep at least a week before your first ride so you can make repairs as needed.

2. Drain the Fuel

When the Jet Ski hasn’t been used in months, you need to drain and refill all of the fluids, including the fuel and motor oil. Be sure to follow the proper recommendations for fuel for your make and model. You can find this information in your owner’s manual or online.

storage3. Grease Components

Before getting your Jet Ski wet, take a few minutes to grease and seal its bearings. This will close up any gaps between the stationary and moving parts. It will also prevent friction and stop grime from seeping into the engine.

4. Secure Cables & Belts

If you spot any loose wires, cables, or belts, take time to secure them properly. If there are any signs of wear or damage, make sure the components are repaired or replaced. You might also want to replace the spark plugs according to the schedule recommended in the owner’s manual.

5. Wash It Down

Even if your watercraft has been covered and protected in storage, it’s still wise to give it a thorough wash and shine. Not only will it look great afterward, but this step will prevent any dust, grime, or bugs from getting into the machine’s inner workings.
