5 Ways to Speed Up Your iPhone®, Glen Allen, Virginia

Whether it's the newest model or a few years old, if you have a mobile Apple® product, such as an iPhone®, you may have noticed that it seems to slow down after a certain amount of time. Features might take longer to load, or there might be a delay when switching between apps. Thankfully, there are a few tricks to try and speed up your iPhone.

What to Do if You Have a Slow iPhone

1. Delete Unused Apps

As impressive as a high score on an old game might be or how fun the photo filters were a few months ago, if there's an app you haven't used in a while, delete it. To do so, press and hold the app's icon until it starts to shake; then, click the "X" in the top left corner. This is also true for other mobile Apple products, so if your iPad® is looking cluttered, delete the unused apps there, as well.

2. Force Quit Background Apps

On older iPhone devices, double-click the "Home" button; on newer models, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. From there, just swipe up on the apps you want to close.

3. Clear Browser Cookies & Cache

The browser cookies and cache can bog down your iPhone device's processing speed. The exact method of clearing these will depend on which browser you use. If you're using Safari—the default browser—go to “Settings” and “Safari” and tap the "Clear History and Website Data" option.

4. Turn Off Reduce Motion

It's no secret that Apple products carry unparalleled attention to detail. This little feature creates a nice visual effect that gives your iPhone a certain quality of depth. However, it's not essential, and if your device is slow, it only adds to the delay. To turn it off, go to “Settings,” “General,” and “Accessibility” and toggle "Reduce Motion" off.

5. Turn Off Location Services

Although it's useful for traveling and some social media apps, "Location Services" continually update, which ultimately requires considerable processing power. Luckily, you can set them to run only when you're using a particular app by going to “Settings,” “Privacy,” and “Location Services.”
