1. Uses

Curtain wall windows are used for multistory structures with frames that are generally 13 feet or higher. Think of how skyscrapers appear to be made completely out of windows. 2. Design

Storefront windows are designed to span between the ground and the floor above with a framework that incorporates an entrance. These windows are generally center glazed or flush glazed, which means they’re installed to be flush with the framework.

Curtain wall windows extend out from the building’s main structure, attached to an extruded aluminum framing. This design allows for better performance against the elements.

3. Water Management

Storefront windows are generally a couple of inches thick, with no self-draining system. With their close proximity to the ground, they don’t need as much protection from the weather. The overhang from the roof and other overhead structures offer ample protection. Curtain wall windows, however, deal with a lot of exposure to the elements at higher elevations. These windows are generally much thicker than storefront windows, ranging from 6 to 10 inches. They also have their own draining system to negate water that makes its way into the curtain wall through air pressure and tension.
