As a business owner, you think about how to protect assets, especially if you have a busy retail space. Tills, high-value cash items, documents, and even certain pieces of work equipment will need to be locked up at night before you leave, but in which type of safe? Here are three varieties of that are perfect for businesses, and why you should consider them.

3 Varieties of Safes

1. Depository Safe

Many businesses need a way to store cash and check deposits from tills during the day. At the end of an employee’s shift, they may count out their till and deposit the money, checks, and credit card receipts in a depository safe. These special units can be freestanding or bolted to the wall or floor, and typically have a slot or dropbox area where employees can insert cash or checks without unlocking the body of the unit. They are designed to hold items temporarily until they can be moved to a more secure location, although they do guard against burglary.

2. Burglar Safe

safeTypically crafted from thick steel and designed to guard against prolonged break-in attempts, these safes may be hidden in your business or permanently bolted to wall structures. Burglar units are excellent for storing large amounts of cash or gold, and may also house important documents such as daily bank totals.

3. Fire Safe

These are available in a range of different heat ratings, based on how long they can withstand direct flames without melting or burning. However, they are usually designed for the sole purpose of document storage, so you shouldn’t use them for high-value items like cash, or business equipment.
