Although discovered in Germany nearly 120 years ago, polycarbonate didn't share patents from national companies Bayer and GE until 1955. The group of thermoplastic polymers known for its easy ability to be molded is now used by providers such as Min Plastics & Supply in Honolulu in a number of products.

Because of its strong resistance to breakage, polycarbonate is the primary component in bulletproof windows, eyeglasses, CDs and DVDs. Compared to acrylic, which is 17% stronger than glass, polycarbonate is nearly indestructible. The strong plastic is also one-sixth as heavy as glass and one-third the weight of acrylic.

Min Plastics & Supply uses Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet products, which are virtually unbreakable and half the weight of glass in comparable thickness. Customers have access to Makrolon in a variety of grades, gauges, colors, textures and sizes for many applications. Besides outstanding impact strength, the polycarbonate features superior dimensional stability and high temperature resistance.

From bus shelters, train windows and secured facilities to machine guards, golf cart windshields and longliner boat windows, Min Plastics & Supply uses polycarbonate in an array of industrial plastic applications.

Min Plastics & Supply has an expansive stock of polycarbonate on its premises, along with engraving sheets, nylon rods, expanded PVC, HDPE and UHMW. The supplier of plastic products also has one of the largest inventories of acrylic sheets, tubes and rods in the Pacific region.
