Selecting the perfect table lamp takes more than choosing the proper design theme and bulb brightness. If you want to make your lighting really pop, your lamp should also be sized properly to mesh with your existing decor while adding touches of layered light. Here are three ways to choose the proper size for a new table lamp.

3 Tips for Selecting the Right Lamp

1. Measure the Table It Will Sit On

As a general rule, your table lamp should be no larger than 1.25 times taller than the table it sits on. However, since every table is a different size, it can be helpful to measure the table height before you start shopping. The combined height of the table and lamp should be between 58 to 64 inches from the floor to the finial.

2. Calculate the Visual Distance

3. Keep Standard Sizes In Mind

If you’re unable to take accurate measurements because the room you are redecorating isn’t finished, keep lamp height standards in mind. On average, table lamps in living rooms are between 24 and 34 inches tall, while bedroom table lamps tend to be smaller (between 24 and 27 inches tall).
