If you work at a job that requires you to sit in front of a computer for several hours a day, you are at a higher risk for developing eye strain, a condition that can cause headaches, eye dryness, sensitivity to light, and muscle tightness. Here are a few eye care exercises you should remember if you are a desk worker and how they can help prevent strain.

3 Eye Exercises You Can Do At Work

1. Eye Rolling

Although rolling your eyes at clients, managers, or co-workers is never a good idea, doing so every once in a while can lubricate your eyes and relax their muscles. Throughout the day, practice rolling your eyes back and forth to give them a break from staring at one spot.

2. Visual Breaks

eye careAs a general rule of thumb, it is always smart to give your vision a break by using the 20-20-20 rule. After 20 minutes of straight computer use, look at something in your office at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This simple action helps your eyes refocus and relax, making it easier to continue working later.

3. Palming

Another good way to relax is by rubbing your palms together to generate heat and then cupping them over your eyes for a few seconds. In addition to feeling great, palming physically relaxes the muscles around your eyes. Before palming, wash and dry your hands carefully to prevent bacterial or viral transmission.
