Every season of your life is a little different, which is why having family photos taken can help preserve meaningful memories. However, it isn’t always easy to prepare for a photo shoot, especially if it’s been a while since you were in front of a camera. Here are three ways to prepare for your next family sitting.

Tips for Getting Ready for a Photo Shoot

1. Consider Comfort

Depending on which kind of photo shoot you booked, you may need to keep yourself and your family relaxed and happy for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Make sure everyone has eaten before the sitting, and have the family dress in climate-appropriate clothing that’s comfortable enough to wear for the duration. Keep non-messy snacks and toys on hand for small children who might need a break between sessions.

2. Remember the Detailsphoto shoot

While professional photographers can use photo editing software to remove imperfections like lint on a shirt or an uncovered blemish, it’s always easier to prevent these issues in the first place. Before your photo shoot, make sure every member of your family has brushed their teeth, combed their hair, and run a lint roller over their clothes.

3. Choose a Meaningful Location

This is determined by weather, sun direction and environment.  Looking for unique locations is key to make the session all yours.  I like to search this out a few days prior to family sessions.  Depending on what is in bloom or what colors are vibrantly showing, will make a huge impact on your session.

4.  Have FUN!

Let kids be kids!  Let them have fun and show their personalities.  The photographer should be in charge and able to capture your family with their true personalities shining through!  Letting kids be kids, will encourage REAL smiles from your kids, that you will love!  They are only little once, capture them in that moment!
