Floor tile installation is not as complicated as it seems and can be done by just about anyone who has a knack for DIY home improvement projects. This will allow you to learn a new skill, improve your home, and save some money. Here are five easy steps to laying tile using a few materials and a tool rental tile cutter.

How to Lay Tile in 5 Easy Steps Using a Tool Rental Cutter

1. Lay Out the Tiles

After cleaning the floor, do a “dry run” by laying out tiles on the floor with small spaces in between. Doing so allows you to get a glimpse of how the floor would look once the installation is done and would also make it easier to identify which parts of the floor would need trimmed tiles.

2. Cut Odd Tiles

3. Apply the Mortar

Mix thin-set mortar as per the package instructions. Apply the mortar evenly on the floor using a notched trowel in areas measuring around three feet by three feet. It’s best to work in small sections to keep the mortar from drying out before the tile has been placed in position.

4. Place the Tile

While the mortar is still tacky, place the tile on it, slightly pressing and twisting to make sure that it is set. Repeat the process of mortar application and laying out the tile until the whole floor is covered. Use spacers to ensure even spaces between tiles. Allow the mortar to dry for several days.

5. Apply Grout

Once the mortar is dry, remove the spacers, and mix grout according to package instructions. Spread the grout across the floor, making sure that it covers spaces between the tiles. Allow the grout to dry before wiping off the excess with a wet sponge.
