Spring is finally here, and with it comes the opportunity to add curb appeal to your home with a new landscape design. Before updating the physical features of your garden, however, ensure your lawn is clean and ready for a revamp. Here are some ways you can remove the damages left by winter to prepare your yard for the new season.

How to Prep Your Lawn for Spring

1. Tidy Up

Before you begin any type of landscape design project, give your lawn a little spring cleaning to identify patchy areas or other elements you want to repair. Clear away branches, leaves, and any other debris from your garden beds, then trim dead sections of plants and trees to make way for new blooms.

2. Fertilize & Protect

To have lush, green grass in your landscape design, give your lawn a high-quality feed and protect it from weed growth. In early spring, apply a combination of fertilizer and pre-emergent, a herbicide used to prevent crabgrass. About six weeks later, after the fertilizer has set in, apply these products again with a broadleaf weed killer.

3. Mow Regularly

Make sure your mower blades are sharp to prevent leaving behind jagged edges, then give your lawn a good trim every five days for the first few weeks of spring, when growth is faster.

4. Add New Mulch

Mulch helps control moisture absorption over time, which can cause roots to rot, and can even prevent weed growth by limiting the supply of sunlight budding weeds receive. To make your landscape design stand out and keep your garden beds neat, fill your garden with your preferred type of mulch.
