1. Washer

Run an empty cycle with hot water, including bleach or white vinegar, to clean the drain lines. Let it dry for approximately 24 hours. Turn off the water supply and disconnect everything but the drain hose from the wall. Carefully wrap up the water hoses in a towel and lay them inside the machine to prevent damage. Insert shipping bolts or foam in between the casing to keep the drum from shifting during transport.

2. Dryer

Use a bucket of hot water and general cleaner to scrub the inside of the dryer drum. Wipe out the lint screen and vacuum up any excess dust from the interior shaft. Disconnect the power and pull the machine away from the wall so that you can remove the clamp that’s holding the vent pipe in place. Wipe down the exterior of the dryer to prevent it from tracking any dirt into your new home.

3. Refrigerator

Get a cooler, fill it with ice, and empty the refrigerator of all the food. If there’s an ice maker in the freezer section, empty the water reservoir before attempting to move it. Shut off the water and disconnect the power to allow the freezer to fully defrost. Wipe down the interior of both areas and dry them out completely.

4. Grill

Shut everything off and disconnect the fuel lines. Find a safe way to dispose of residual fuel as movers do not allow flammable materials on their trucks. Pack up any utensils and removable parts and ensure that the grill cover is fully secure to preserve the condition of its exterior.
