If you and your significant other are tying the knot, you’ll need to design and send wedding invitations. It’s one of the most important elements of wedding planning. You want them to be clear and easily understandable, yet they should also match the style and formality of your wedding. Luckily, with a little preparation, designing and sending cards can be easy. Here are the do’s and don’ts for creating wedding invitations.

Do:

Send out invitations early.

It’s important to give your family and friends plenty of time to make arrangements to attend your wedding. That’s why you should send out the invitations at least six to eight weeks before your wedding. If you’re planning a destination wedding, you may want to send the invitations out even earlier.

Include all the details.

wedding planningYour wedding invitations should cover all the important details about your big day, like the date, time, and address of ceremony and reception. That way, your guests won’t be left with questions on the day of your wedding. Proofread for grammar and spelling errors to minimize confusion.

Don’t:

Include registry information.

Traditionalists believe that it isn’t good etiquette to put your registry information on your invitations. If your guests choose to get you a gift for your wedding, they can always ask your close relatives for suggestions or your registry information.

Crowd the invitation.

While you likely have many exciting wedding planning details to share, you shouldn’t clutter your wedding invitations with endless information. Adding unimportant details or designs can make the invitations look too busy, which makes it difficult to read.
