Every year, more homes and businesses install mini-split ductless HVAC systems. Capable of doing the job of both AC units and furnaces, they provide comfort to people in every season. As with any new technology, there’s a lot of misinformation that can easily confuse potential buyers. The list below will dispel the most common myths about ductless HVAC systems and make the decision process easier.

What’s the Truth About HVAC Systems?

1. Only Newer Buildings Are Compatible

Installing ductwork in older buildings can be difficult. Mini-splits are compatible with older and new homes and are easier to install than central air systems. Mini-splits require very little space and can be adapted regardless of any previous ductwork done to the building.

2. They Provide Uneven Cooling

Mini-splits have a compact design like window AC units, but they don’t have the same cooling limitations. Ductless systems distribute air evenly wherever they’re installed. They create independent temperature zones more efficient than the ones created by central air systems. These zones allow you to keep different rooms at different temperatures—your bedroom warmer than your living room but cooler than your kitchen, for example.

3. Ductless Systems Need More MaintenanceAC Units

Advanced technology allows ductless mini-splits to perform routine maintenance. Their filters are easily removed for cleaning. Typically, contractors are needed as much for ductless systems as they are for central AC units. Mini-split software makes it easier for contractors to diagnose and repair any problems they might have.

4. The Air Quality is Bad

A common misconception is that without ductwork, AC units will spread dust and bacteria. Mini-split HVAC has built-in filters that collect and trap dirt, contaminants, and even odors—creating healthier air than most common window or ductwork units.

5. Mini-Splits Can Only Be Duct-Free

You can install a mini-split even if you have extensive ductwork from a central air system. Ducted mini-splits are increasingly popular because they use the established ductwork to provide better quality heating and cooling services in a more energy-efficient way, reducing your utility bills throughout the year.
