Matching your chairs with your living room sofa creates a more cohesive look and fosters a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. It also adds a personalized touch. Here are three tips to help you find the perfect matching chairs for your sofa.

How to Match Chairs With a Sofa

1. Choose Chairs Proportionate to the Sofa

Sofas tend to be dominant pieces of furniture, and the chairs that accompany them should come close to matching their proportions. A large, overstuffed couch will naturally dwarf smaller chairs, creating an uneven balance in the room and making the sofa seem bigger and more overpowering. If you have a larger couch, select chairs that are also substantial, such as recliners or even a love seat.

sofa2. Go for Complimentary Fabrics

Don't choose the same fabric styles, patterns, and colors for every item of furniture. Doing so will result in a room with little diversity and few interesting places to rest the eye. Instead, choose fabrics that complement one another in style and pattern. For instance, if you have a chintz sofa, choose solid-colored chairs. If you have a linen sofa with an understated pattern, contrast it with two brown leather wingback chairs.

3. Remember Height

All the seats in a room should be around the same height from the floor; in general, there shouldn’t be more than four inches of difference. With chairs and sofas of similar heights, everyone seated in the room will be at the same level for easy conversation and comfortable eye contact.
