Before finalizing the sale of your house, it’s compulsory that a certified home inspector test its structural components for functionality and efficiency. But, if an inspector encounters issues and roadblocks while carrying out the job, the transaction could be delayed. To avoid this problem, here’s how to prep the property ahead of time.

4 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Inspection

1. Clean & Declutter

You don’t have to wow the home inspector, but cleaning your home creates an impression that other areas are properly maintained as well. Take time to clear out clutter, wipe down surfaces, and organize whatever’s left in your home. Make sure to clear a path to the water heater, furnaces, and electrical panels so the inspector can look at them critically. As you clean, make sure to gather all the keys in one place and label them clearly.

2. Finish Any Repairs

Replace batteries from detectors and remote controls, and check for signs of any leaks or clogging. If you spot anything that needs to be fixed, call in a professional to get it back to working order. Be sure to have the repair documents at hand for reference.

3. Control Your Pets

Most inspections take a couple of hours to finish, so if you have pets, keep them out of the way as much as possible. While they’re adorable, pets can be a hindrance during the inspection, causing unnecessary delays. If you can’t take them out of the house, crate them for the duration.

4. Leave Your Utilities Connected

Often, homeowners have their utilities cut off before inspection, but the examiners need electricity to test your heating and air system, turn on the water heater, and flush your plumbing system to get an accurate picture of your home’s current condition. Rather than risk a reschedule and delay in closing the deal, keep your utilities on.

When it comes time to close the deal on your house, count on the licensed professionals from I.C. IT Home Inspection of San Antonio, TX.
