A lot of people believe you shouldn’t give a dog human food, but this isn’t always true. To provide your dog with the best animal care, you need to pay attention to their diet. If you’ve been feeding your pup the same kibble for years, why not explore other nutritious dog food options every once in a while? Here are some human treats your dog might enjoy and benefit from.

Foods to Try with Your Dog

1. Peanut Butter

animal-careThis is a classic option which will get any dog's attention. You can feed your dog peanut butter by mixing it with other food, or you can place it in a specially designed dog toy which will keep your furry friend entertained while providing protein and vitamins. However, check the label; don't give your dog peanut butter that contains Xylitol or other artificial sweeteners.

2. Meat

The natural canine diet is based on meat, so they're naturally wired to enjoy this snack. While you shouldn't rely only on meat to feed your dog since they'll miss out on some vitamins, adding cooked fish like salmon or either cooked or raw chicken to their meals will help keep them interested in their food. Just don't give them anything with small bones or any bones which have been cooked.

3. Dairy

Unflavored, unsweetened, nonfat yogurt is an effective animal care option because it gives your dog extra calcium and can help with digestion. Cheese can also be a good source of calcium and protein in small amounts, but be careful--some dogs are lactose intolerant.

4. Vegetables

As you explore different animal care options, try giving your dog vegetables. While your dog should never have avocado or onions, other vegetables can give them essential vitamins. Not every dog likes every veggies, but let them try carrots, green beans, or pumpkin to see what they enjoy.

5. Eggs

Dogs can eat eggs that are cooked plain and unseasoned, and they can also consume also raw eggs in the shell. Both are great animal care options because they provide protein and promote healthy, shiny coats. Eggshells in particular will give them a little extra calcium, as well as selenium, an antioxidant.
