Celebrate National Volunteer Week, which is April 7 to 13, by giving a bit of your time to causes and organizations that will greatly appreciate you. One fun way is volunteering at a veterinarian office or clinic that provides spay and neuter services. There’s always a need for more hands on deck to help care for dogs and cats. Here are several ways to help out and the benefits you’ll receive from volunteering.

4 Volunteering Roles That Help Animals in Need

1. Take Dogs on Walks

Dogs are typically kept in kennels. Unfortunately, confinement can lead to stress and cause dogs to stop eating or become inactive. Volunteer by walking them around so that they can get fresh air and play time. Dogs enjoy the stimulating activity and your interaction will create fun memories with these new, furry friends.

2. Donate Pet Supplies

spayWhether it’s a veterinarian office or a spay and neuter clinic, pet supplies are always welcomed. Let your friends, classmates, and neighbors know you’re collecting items to donate. These can include toys, food, bedding, brushes, and cleaning supplies. The staff will be greatly appreciative and your efforts may even inspire you to continue donating year-round.

3. Foster Animals

If you live in a dwelling that allows pets, consider fostering dogs and cats. Most animal shelters are filled to capacity. Find out the procedures for this temporary relocation arrangement to determine if you’re able to devote time to fostering. It helps ease the burdens at overflowing shelters and you get to make new friends with a dog or cat.

4. Assist With Grooming

Another way to volunteer your time at a spay and neuter clinic or veterinarian office is helping staff groom animals. There may be some training you have to undergo to assist with washing, brushing, and other grooming services. By volunteering, more dogs and cats get the proper care and you’ll feel proud for helping staffers with this important task.
