During the busy tax-filing season, it can be difficult to keep track of exactly when your business tax return is due. However, it’s critical to make sure you file on time or request an extension to avoid incurring substantial late penalties. It’s equally important to know that deadlines vary depending on a business’s type of entity. Below is an overview of this year’s filing and extension deadlines for each type of business.

Important Due Dates for Business Tax Returns

Partnership & S Corporation Returns

If your business operates as a partnership (LLC) or S corporation, you must file your taxes by the fifteenth day of the third month of your fiscal year. Should you need an extension for any reason, your new deadline will be the fifteenth day of the ninth month of your fiscal year. For 2019, those dates are March 15 and September 16 (since September 15 is a Sunday).

Sole Proprietors & C Corporation Returns

business-tax-returnAs a sole proprietor or C corporation, your business tax return is due by the fifteenth day of the fourth month of your fiscal year. Filing an extension will give you until the fifteenth day of the tenth month of your fiscal year. This means April 15, 2019 and October 15, 2019.

Non-Profit Organization Returns

If you run a non-profit organization, your tax deadline is the fifteenth day of the fifth month of your fiscal year, which is May 15, 2019. If you need an extension to file your business tax return, this will give you until the fifteenth day of the eighth month of your fiscal year, or August 15, 2019.
