Preparing for residential moving can be a project in and of itself, but like with all feats, a bit of planning can reduce the amount of stress that comes with it. If you’re wondering what you’ll need to complete a seamless move that doesn’t result in damages, here are some items you should keep on hand.

Perfect the Residential Moving Process With These Supplies

1. Boxes

To ensure you can accommodate all of your possessions, you’ll need a varied assortment of boxes. Use small containers for heavy items, which will make them easier to carry, and load many light items in large boxes to maximize their space. For boxes you can reuse later, invest in plastic storage bins with lids.

2. Tape

residential movingBasic Scotch® tape won’t be enough to hold cardboard shut, so buy strong packing tape to prevent your boxes from collapsing. If you’re transporting more than can fit in a studio, stock up with at least five rolls. To create clear labels on your boxes, use masking tape, which you can write on.

3. Padding

Some furniture items, such as antique dressers or mahogany dining tables, need additional protection to prevent scratches and nicks. Get padded blankets to wrap around fragile objects such as wood furnishings and flat-screen TVs.

4. Dolly

Even if you’re hiring a residential moving service to carry your load, a dolly or hand truck can help you carry heavy boxes of books or move kitchenware out onto the driveway. If you’re moving oversized items, secure them to your dolly with a bungee cord.
