Technology

I recently traveled to the U of R Udall Center Update, headed by Dr. Ray Dorsey, who is a part of the Center for Health and Technology (CHeT).  This group seeks to “(lead) the field in evaluating how to harness the tools and technologies of the early 21st century to extend the reach and impact of research and clinical care”. One example related to Clinical Trials: “Doctors say abundant health data gathered by phones produces better, more timely studies. Most of the studies were made possible by Apple’s open-source smartphone platform called ResearchKit.” Read more here.

MJFF Patient Council

On April 4 & 5 I’m participating in meetings in NYC for the MJFF Patient Council.  “The MJFF Patient Council was established in March 2009 as a formal channel for the Foundation to solicit input from PD patients and the broader Parkinson's community. The Council advises the Foundation on programmatic fronts including (but not limited to) strategies to best convey patient priorities to the research community and its funders; content and emphasis for patient education and outreach relevant to MJFF's mission to find a cure; patient roles in developing novel ways to conduct research; and mechanisms for impact assessment.”

Parkinson’s Study Group

In Steven Johnson’s book, Where Good Ideas Come From, collaboration is seen as the seed for new ideas, and as the genesis for making the impossible, possible (“Innovation and evolution thrive in large networks.”).  On April 6 and 7 I’m participating in the PSG Annual Meeting and Symposium in Phoenix – a group that is built around collaboration and sharing of ideas and bp’s.  Good things are coming.
