With the amount of time you spend at home, it’s important to consider the air you’re breathing while you’re there. Poor indoor air quality can negatively impact the health and comfort of your family and guests. Here are some of the most common signs your air quality is poor.

How to Tell if You Have Bad Indoor Air Quality at Home

1. Allergies

Allergy-sufferers experience symptoms due to a variety of stimulants, including pollen, pet dander, and dust. It’s possible that these allergens are circulating in your home. If you notice that your symptoms flare up when you’re inside your house, you may need help from an HVAC specialist. They can perform duct cleaning, install air sterilization products, and upgrade your air filter.

2. Dust

3. Mold

Poor indoor air quality may cause your humidity levels to spike above the desired 35-50%. The extra moisture in the air can damage your home’s furniture and lead to mildew and mold growth; when exposed to humidity, wood furniture will expand and eventually deteriorate. Mold can be identified by a musty smell around the house. Eventually, black or green mold spots will appear in your kitchen, bathroom, and other areas where water is present.
