Dentures are an excellent way to restore your smile and boost your confidence. A dentist will provide instructions on how to care for your dental apparatus, and it’s crucial that you follow these instructions to the letter to keep the false teeth intact and looking their best.

Do:

Clean them daily.

Dentures should be removed and soaked overnight in a cleaning solution. This keeps them soft and pliable, while also ensuring that they’re free of bacteria when you replace them in the morning. Additionally, they should be brushed daily using a gentle cleanser and a soft-bristled brush. Don’t use regular toothpaste to brush your false teeth, as it may be too harsh.

Care for your gums.

denturesDon’t forget to clean your mouth and gums while the dentures are removed. You can brush your gums gently to remove any lingering bacteria, which ensures that the gum tissue remains healthy. Rinsing with mouthwash is also recommended, especially after eating. This prevents infections and ensures that your dentures continue to fit well.

Don’t:

Use front dentures on hard foods.

False teeth are prone to breaking. That’s why you should be careful when taking bites, especially for harder foods like apples. Never use your front dentures to bite, as they’re most likely to chip and crack. Cut food into smaller pieces when you can to take smaller bites.

Use toothpicks or dental scrapers.

While it’s natural for food to become trapped in dentures, you must take care when removing it. Using toothpicks or plastic dental scrapers may be effective, but you run the risk of damaging your gums. Instead, remove the dentures from your mouth before attempting to get rid of any food stuck between the teeth.
