Going on a vacation with family or friends is exciting. And with available hospitality sites at an all-time high, you can easily find a great vacation property to rent whether you're heading to the beach or the mountains. But be prepared to do some light cleaning when you arrive and before you leave. Here is a short list of how to go about this.

How to Properly Clean Your Vacation Rental

1. Focus on the Kitchen First

Make the kitchen your priority when you arrive at the vacation property. Wipe down all surfaces with antibacterial wipes, including countertops, the microwave, the stove, and the refrigerator. Check that all cabinets are empty and toss any leftover food. If you’re going to store items in the cabinets and drawers, wipe them down first to remove lingering bacteria and debris.

2. Take the Trash Out

The previous tenant of the vacation property might have forgotten to take out the trash. Check all the garbage bins to see if they're empty and toss out any trash that you find. Place new liners in the bins so you can start to use them immediately to prevent garbage from accumulating.

3. Check the Outdoor Area

One of the best things about renting a vacation property is being able to cook outside. So take a few minutes to spruce up the outdoor area of your rental place. Start by sweeping the deck and wiping chairs and tables. If you’re using the grill on the property, make sure it’s clean and ready to use. Scrape off leftover food from the rack and let it soak in the sink with soap to loosen stubborn grime.
