Spring allergies can be tough in many ways, and your eyes are no exception. If you’re tired of dealing with watery and itchy eyes every year during allergy season, there are things you can do to protect them. Follow these eye care tips to take care of yours this spring.

Eye Care Guide for Spring Allergies

1. Wear Eyeglasses

eye glassesMany people who wear contact lenses deal with allergy irritation, as pollen binds to the lenses and irritates the eyes. Put away the contacts for this season and wear eyeglasses instead. Glasses will also protect you from pollen in the air on windy days by keeping it from blowing into your eyes.

2. Keep Your Air Clean

The best way to avoid spring allergies is to avoid pollen. You can’t lock yourself inside for the entire season, but you can limit the number of allergens you’re exposed to. Start by keeping your windows closed, both in your car and home. Put your air conditioner on the “recirculate” setting so that it doesn’t pull air in from the outdoors. Change out your air conditioning filter every four weeks so it can catch as much pollen as possible.

3. Use Eye Drops

You may still experience some discomfort from the high pollen numbers, so be proactive about eye care in keeping them lubricated. Eye drops soothe irritation and help to flush out those irritants. Keep your eye drops with you so you can use them as soon as you feel affected.
