Window contractors suggest that you wash windows to protect them from damage and to enjoy clear views of your property. However, there are a handful of ways you should prepare in advance to clean them without issue. Professional window contractors recommend abiding by the following do’s and don’ts.

Do:

Focus on height safety.

You’ll likely need a ladder for hard to reach windows and those on the upper stories of your home. Make sure your ladder functions properly and is in sturdy condition. Place the ladder securely against the building, and have a friend or family member hold it in place for extra protection.

Use the right tools.

Don’t:

Wash on sunny days.

While it may seem counterintuitive to avoid cleaning on bright days, there’s sound logic behind it. Sunny days mean quicker drying times, which increases the likelihood of streaks and smears. Window washing on an overcast day will provide you with better visibility for a spotless clean.

Start from the bottom.

As with most cleaning tasks, work from the top down. This will prevent water and cleaning products from running down and ruining the work you’ve done. Window contractors recommend applying the same concept to the property as a whole, starting with windows on upper stories first.
