Acne is a common skin condition that can occur at any age. It happens when dead skin cells, dirt, sweat, and your face’s own oils clog pores, resulting in breakouts. Luckily, you can take some simple steps to combat the problem. Find out what acne treatments you can do at home below.

3 Home Acne Treatments to Improve Skin

1. Tea Tree Oil

Pimples can be caused by bacteria infecting your pores. Tea tree oil has natural antibacterial properties and acts as an anti-inflammatory, reducing the redness that accompanies acne. Mix one part tea tree oil with nine parts water, moisten a cotton swab with the solution, and apply it to the affected area daily.

2. Green Tea

acne treatmentGreen tea is loaded with antioxidants, which help break down chemicals and waste in the body—elements that could otherwise clog pores. It also reduces the production of sebum, a natural oil, and combats inflammation. Along with drinking green tea, you can apply it directly on the skin. After boiling the tea, allow it to cool and use a cotton ball to dab it on any problem areas.

3. Aloe Vera

Like tea tree oil, aloe has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect on breakouts. Thanks to its high water content, it’s also a great moisturizer. It’s particularly ideal for people who experience dry skin from over-the-counter products. Apply a thin layer of gel with at least 10% aloe to acne sores. If you have a plant, scrape gel from inside the leaf with a spoon and apply it directly on the skin.
