If you’ve decided to remodel your kitchen or bathroom, choosing a countertop material is one of the key decisions you’ll have to make. Quartz is one of the newer options available today, but it has become increasingly popular among homeowners. Unlike granite or marble, quartz countertops are actually a mixture of different minerals, taking the best of both worlds to give homeowners powerful benefits.

Sustainable

Quartz is a very hard material found inside numerous types of rocks—including igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary—found all over the world. However, to be used in countertops or other building materials, the ground quartz must be combined with resins and other binders as well as pigments to alter the coloring. This is why they are often referred to as engineered-quartz countertops.

After the mixing process, the quartz mixture is poured into molds and fully compressed and compacted. It’s then sent through an industrial oven at very high temperatures to solidify into a hard and durable surface. Once it's installed, it can withstand heavy drops, scratches, and scorching.

Healthy

This unique feature also makes it much easier to keep the countertops clean as spills can’t be absorbed by the material to become stains. There’s also no need for sealing, as is necessary with granite countertops. Just make sure to wipe them down with mild soap and water, and you’ll have a clean place to eat, cook, or hold toiletries for years to come.
