How You Can Celebrate Earth Day This Year, Lilburn, Georgia

Spring is just around the corner, which means that Earth Day is approaching as well. Celebrated all over the world on April 22, this annual event highlights the importance of environmental protection. Even if you’re not a green activist, one way to show support is scheduling routine tree services for your landscape or garden. Here’s a brief history of how this worldwide movement started and how you can join.

How Earth Day Came About

The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson was bothered by the aftermath of the 1969 oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara, CA. He broached the idea of raising public awareness on environmental issues like pollution and recycling, which had taken a backseat to the booming industrial revolution. At the time, no political agenda called for protecting natural resources against widespread pollution and mass consumption.

Nelson’s call to action yielded positive results; 20 million people came out and joined the peaceful rallies to promote environmental reform. Thanks to the very first Earth Day, the Environmental Protection Agency was established and various laws protecting the environment were passed in the U.S. Today, Earth Day has grown into a worldwide movement spanning more than a hundred countries and a hundred million people. It is a continued call for everyone to be more proactive in reducing their carbon footprint with clean energy sources to keep global warming in check.

What You Can Do

One effective way to tree services protect the Earth and environment is by planting trees. The Earth Day Network, the nonprofit organization that promotes the annual event, has an ongoing program called the Canopy Project. It aims to restore forests and lands degraded by natural calamities. They also encourage people to take care of plants with proper tree services and highlight the significant role that arborists play in maintaining the health and growth of our surrounding flora.

Aside from tree services and care, do your share to minimize fossil fuel consumption and emissions. Walk, ride a bike, or carpool to go places instead of driving your car. Learn to recycle and reuse, and switch to paperless transactions to save more trees.
